Review: Extraordinary you

Extraordinary You drama poster with Kim Hye Yoon and Rowoon

No. of episodes: 32
Genre: Fantasy, School, Romance

Native title: 어쩌다 발견한 하루
Original network: MBC

This is probably one of my favorite drama that only rank one below Hotel del Luna. It is pretty sad that it is coming to an end. The drama really took me by surprise. Awesome production and story that instantly gain its popularity in Korea and around the globe.

The drama is about life of a comic characters regain their conscious and shuffle their lives between shadow and stage.

Comic within Comic

Comic, Manga, Manhwa, all these are similar way to describe a content.

Secret is the comic that all the characters are drawn into by the writer. The main characters of Secret are Oh Nam Joo (Kim Young Dae), Yeo Ju Da (April’s Lee Na Eun) and Lee Do Hwa (Jung Gun Joo).

Trumpet Creeper is another comic that the self aware characters discover at the later part of the drama. The main characters of Trumpet Creeper are Baek Kyung (Lee Jae Wook), Eun Dan Oh (Kim Hye Yoon) and Haru (SF9’s Rowoon).

Extraordinary you is the drama as a whole which the main character is Haru, Dan Oh and Baek Kyung.

Before you continue, the following content does contain spoilers and want to be “spoiled”… check out my first impression here.

SPOILER

Self Aware characters

Being self aware means the characters are aware of themselves between pages which they have memories have. Dan Oh is the first few that was self aware and slowly get to know that she is just an extra in the comic. After which, she was joined by Do Hwa who feels demoralized that he can’t be with the person he love as he was written in to bless Nam Joo and Ju Da.

Previously, I posted the real A3 that I feel best suit the drama instead of the original A3 consist Nam Joo, Baek Kyung and Do Hwa. Interestingly, they self declared as “the three Seuli musketeers” at the end of the drama.

As the drama progress, the clan grew and it gets interesting.

Changing the story

Dan Oh is a chaebol born with heart disease and pact to Baek Kyung as his fiancee. Being an extra in Secret, she hates the fact that she is born with heart disease and wants to change her ending that the writer sets for her.

Do Hwa being the third self aware character joins in Dan Oh’s group with Dried Squid Fairy and brainwashed by Dan Oh that it is possible to change their fate. Do Hwa wants to change the fate and end up be together with Ju Da.

The key is the unknown Number 13 which we know now, his name is Haru.

Cringe moments

It is really cute when the self aware characters are able to see the “special effects” drawn in by the writer and really had a great time judging the cheesy lines.

Dan Oh did end up understand how Nam Joo and Ju Da can speak such cheesy words from their mouth when she’s in the honeymoon period with Haru.

Variables

Being a fantasy drama which characters live in a comic world, there are tonnes of variables that could happen which they are not aware. First one is when Haru is the only person that can change the stage.

This drama is a good production as they level up the acting of not only the main characters, even the supporting actors/actresses are being notice. I might do a separate post on it since they are really worth mentioning.
