Believe me when I say the second lead syndrome is real and it really does hit us even more since 2019. Often caught up and find myself caught in a dilemma between both the leads. Understand that the receiving end will be happy yet sad at the same time.
Wanted to keep a record of the second leads that deserve their own spotlight as well.
Here is the updated version.
Kim Seo Jun in True Beauty
Hwang In Yeob, the heartthrob stole million hearts through his role as Kim Seo Jun in True Beauty. The currently ongoing webtoon has million followers and the highly anticipated one debut on screen.
True Beauty is about Im Joo Kyung (Moon Ga Young) who refused to be caught without make-up due to her insecurities. However, her heart skipped a beat when she met the only man, Lee Su Ho (Astro’s Cha Eun Woo) who see her bare face. Han Seo Jun (Hwang In Yeob), the rebellious exterior might scare you, but slowly you will see the silly yet warm side of him.
Han Ji Pyung in Start Up
Even though as a viewer, I feel that the relationship between Seo Dal Mi and Han Ji Pyung (Kim Seon Ho) is kinship more than relationship. But many debate and question it.
Start-up is about the joy and hardship of being an entrepreneur. The story sets in South Korea’s fictional Silicon Valley Sandbox, the world of start-up companies. Seo Dal Mi (Bae Suzy) is a passionate individual that wants to be the CEO of a start-up company, she joined Nam Do San (Nam Joo Hyuk) in Samsan Tech and entered Sandbox.
Kim Soo/ Lee Soo in Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency
The love triangle in Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency, between Soo (Seo Ji Hoon), Gae Ttong, and Ma Hoon (Kim Min Jae). Soo and Gae Ttong is almost entering the “happily ever after” phrase when he was kidnapped to be the King of the country. Gae Ttong assumed that he got cold feet and ran away from the wedding ceremony.
Baek Kyung (Extraordinary you)
Extraordinary you is a story about the life of comic characters who regain their consciousness and shuffle their lives between shadow and stage. Eun Dan Oh (Kim Hye Yoon) was paired up with Baek Kyung (Lee Jae Wook) by the creator of Secret. Wanting to escape her fate after she starts to be self-aware, Haru (SF9’s Rowoon) is the only person that can help her.
Only after Baek Kyung regain his consciousness and became self-aware, he wanted to be nice to Dan Oh but he can’t control his real feelings. During the stage, he was trapped in the set where is he treats Dan Oh bad, and just being a jerk.
Lee Ji Hoon in Hit the Top
Ji Hoon (Kim Min Jae) always have the thing for Woo Seung (Lee Se Young) since mid-high school but every time when he finally mask up to confess, something bounds to happen. Who knows that end up Woo Seung’s happily ever after is with Ji Hoon’s birth father that time traveled to the modern world.
Ma Wang Joon in My Absolute Boyfriend
The story about a romance between a human and a robot. Da Da received Zero 9 (Yeo Jin Goo) one day and became her rebound boy after ending the relationship with a rising star actor, Wang Joon.
To be frank, I am totally fine with Wang Joon (Hong Jong Hyun) end up with Da da (Girls’ Day’s MinAh) since they are the humans that were in love for seven long years.
Han Woo Tak in While You Were Sleeping
The story begins when Nam Hong Ju (Bae Suzy) has bad premonition dreams meets two people who developed the same ability recently. Jung Jae Chan (Lee Jong Suk) is a rookie prosecutor who lives with his younger brother Jung Seung Won (Shin Jae Ha). Han Woo Tak (Jung Hae In) is a young police officer who developed the ability after an accident that involves Hong Ju and Jae Chan.
This is the first drama that I see Jung Hae In as a strong presence since Goblin. I wasn’t expecting his role to be significant initially but turns out, I love how he is there for Hong Ju and not crossing the line.
Do Hwa (Extraordinary you, Secret)
A cheat here since Do Hwa (Jung Gun Joo) is the second lead in the comic of Extraordinary you name Secret. Do Hwa is self aware and slowly accept the fate of him only able to help Ju Da (April’s Na Eun) and Nam Joo achieve their happily ever after. However in recent episodes, Ju Da’s self aware might turn the table around!
Which second lead breaks your heart the most?
