The drama is set in 1980, two youngsters who were swept up by the Gwangju Uprising*. Hwang Hee Tae (Lee Do Hyun) is a troublemaker who hates anything predictable in life. Raise up by his single mother, he proves people wrong by being the top student and entered Seoul National University College of Medicine.
Kim Myung Hee (Go Min Si) is a nurse who left home and begins to live alone in Gwangju. Unlike her angelic exterior, she has a rather cold personality that refrains her from relating to crying patients and comforting them. She is described as a warrior with her skillful medical technics rather than an angel in white robes.
Lee Soo Ryun (Geum Sae Rok) is different from her best friend Kim Myung Hee. Soo Ryun is an easygoing person with a bubbly personality however she is born with a silver spoon which makes her feel the pressure to be a frontrunner for can societal issues.
Lee Soo Chan (Lee Sang Yi) is Soo Ryun’s elder brother who returns home from France to help with the family business. Soo Chan forges a dangerous contract with Hwang Hee Tae’s family.
