A little history class, the Goryeo-Khitan War is a real event that took place between the 10th and 11th centuries. Started between the Goryeo Dynasty of Korea and the Khitan-led Liao Dynasty of China near the present-day border of China and North Korea (known as the Northern Korean Peninsula).
Back to the drama, the historical drama narrates the story of the 2nd and 3rd periods of the war where King Hyeonjong and his mentor, Commander-in-Chief Gang Gam Chan unite the people of Goryeo to fight back against Khitan.
